Tutorial: How to solve Japan Crosswords.
Step 1. At the start of game you see empty grid. Each row (column) has some numbers
in beginning of the row (column). Each number means how many continious cell
is filled in a hidden picture (length of the filled block). Filled blocks of
cells are arranged from left to right and from top to bottom. Between filled
blocks must be at least one empty cell.
Step 2. If number in the start of a row (column) is equal to width (height) of
the game field then this row (column) consists only of filled cells. So,
rows 5 and 10 are filled.
Step 3. Now look at the first column. It contains one block of 7 continiously
filled cells (look at the start of column). There is only one way to place it - 7 cells
from 4th row to 10th row. First three cells in the first column are not filled -
mark them with a point as "empty". Do the same with the last column.
Step 4. In the rows 5th and 9th we now have two blocks with length 1. So,
we can mark all other cells as "empty". In row 3 there must be one block of 5
filled cells - so, we mark all cells from 2 to 6 as filled.
Step 5. Do as above with column 2 and 6. Then row 2, 6 and 8.
Step 6. There is only one way to fill the columns 3, 4 and 5. This way shown in the
picture. Congradulation, solution is founded !
